This sight is well made and used by sports-persons and law enforcement. It is all metal except the ''plastic'' fiber-optic tube.
Unlike Tritium tube or Tritium Fiber Optic Sights that can be rather fragile, break or become ''un-glued'' and slip from their mounting, the HIVIZ appears to have none of these weakness, save one...though the fiber in the HIVIZ is bright, (when plenty of ambient light is present), it does not ''glow'' and though the green-dot is fairly large, it still fades away in dimming light quickly, as it ''holds no light'' nor unlike radioactive Tritium, ''produces no light''.
I still think this sight is superior to a fixed all metal front post single painted-dot stock sight as you do sight onto the green-dot faster/more accurately, than a stock sight.
Fitting/Mounting was accomplished by rubbing the sight mounting base onto 160grit abrasive paper on a dead flat surface.
Insure that you mount your Slide into a firm vice, and protect the surface of the slides walls when clamped, with wood, aluminum, or leather to prevent scoring or scratching of the slides surface.
The HIVIS sight base was sanded, rotated 180 deg. and sanded to keep the surface literally flat and not sand in a unintended incline to the mounting base.
The sanding was repeated until the sight hand-pushed nearly 1/2 into the pistol-slide sight-slot.
Sand and push test, sand and push test.
Much more sanding was required to remove the sight base metal to allow the slip-fit desired than anticipated...just keep going.
Occasionally, I rounded the Sight edges slightly, so as not to be sharp and to prevent gouging, when testing the slot fit.
A drop of lite oil the sight base lubricated and facilitated the insert-extract, testing process.
When the fit seemed right, I used a aluminum bolt, filed down
to fit the Sight to tap the sight into place. (tap it out - sand - tap it in- test).
Don''t use a steel punch on the Sight!
Plastic/nylon punch may work or just bend/break.
The Sight is taped into place ONLY on the sight/slot ''foot''. Do not attempt hitting the sight body itself..Duh!
O.K., this is a well made product, and if you want the step-up from stock painted dot-sight, to Fiber Optics, but cant afford, or don''t trust the durability of Tritium glass tubes, then HIVIS is a great product, and recommended.
